Navtej Kohli Reviews Paranormal Activity 3

In this article Navtej Kohli Reviews the latest prequel of Paranormal Activity Series.

Found footage films and reality TV are quite common and in more ways than one. First, their production cost is very low and if they become a hit, the profits can go off the roof. A trend started by The Blair Witch Project in 1999, a low budget film, shot on a handheld camera that raked in millions, but it's only the Paranormal Activity franchise that tapped its potential to the full. The third installment of the movie is now playing in a theater near you to put that chill down your spine.

Like Paranormal Activity 2, this too is a prequel set back in 1988. The movie takes you through the childhood of protagonist sisters, exploring the origins of their haunting. The story begins with strange activities and sounds in the night, and the lead male character Dennis, a videographer by profession fixes the cameras around the house to capture any unusual activity while the family sleeps. As the days go by, the demon become more agitated and persistent in its attacks making it difficult for the family to stay in the house.

The lowpoint of the movie is that it doesn't showcase many new scares. The technology is downgraded by 23 years, but the quality of the footage is same as the first two installments. The storytelling is exactly the same as what was seen in part 1 and 2.

An original feature in the movie is when Dennis straps the camera to an oscillating fan base so that he can see both living room and kitchen simultaneously. In the movie, you may see something weird going on in the living room, but have to endure a few nail biting moments to get back from the kitchen to further explore it.

To conclude, the third installment has nothing new to win more hearts, because its the same old wine in a new bottle. However, those who love paranormal activity series would certainly like this one too.
